Superior Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks

Slow Cooker Time LOW6 hr

Ingredients

  • 4 lamb shanks
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Flour, salt and pepper lamb shanks on all sides. Then, chop onion in approximately 1/2-inch squares.

  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in large pan. Add onion and cook over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Heat 1-2 tablespoon olive oil in your slow cooker.

  5. Brown shanks on all sides, removing them as they are browned (add more oil if necessary).

  6. Once all shanks are browned, return them to the slow cooker, and add sauteed onions and beef broth.

  7. Cover and simmer on LOW until lamb shanks are tender. Approximately 4-6 hours.

  8. Remove 1/2 the remaining broth, place in a blender, and puree.

  9. Serve atop mash potatoes, rice, vegetable hash, etc. The sky is the limit. Top with pureed broth and enjoy.
