What a blast from the past - this recipe looks like it came straight out of the '70's! I recall eating something similar to this as a child, in one of those heavy old olive green crock pots. If you didn't want to use cut up hot dogs in this, you could surely use a keilbasa or other smoked sausage sliced up, or even those little cocktail sausages. I would still brown them in a pan first, or pop them under the broiler for a couple minutes to bring out their flavor.
