  • 1 can Campbells Condensed Golden Mushroom Soup
  • 1 cup Burgundy or other dry red wine
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
  • 6 ounces small whole mushrooms (about 2 cups)
  • 1 cup frozen small whole onions, thawed
  • 2 cups fresh or thawed frozen whole baby-cut carrots
  • 1 1/2 pound boneless beef top round steaks, 1 1/2-inches thick, cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Stir the soup, wine, garlic, thyme, mushrooms, carrots, onions and beef in a 3 1/2-quart slow cooker.

  2. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 9 hours or until the beef is fork-tender.

I love this recipe, since the only thing you have to cut up is the beef! I think those little pearl onions are always delightful in soups and stews, since they add a mild sweet flavor and a touch of elegance. Plus, no peeling and no tears gives them added bonus points!

Do you have to use the mushrooms for this recipe to be a bourguignon? I want to try the dish, but I am allergic to mushrooms and cannot use them in the recipe. I like the rest of the ingredients, I just have no idea what I can use in the dish instead of the mushroom soup and fresh mushrooms. I was thinking celery and cream of celery.
