By far the best pea soup I have ever made. My store didn't have ham hocks so I used a ham shank, which I believe gave us more meat. My DH gave it "10" stars and I shared it with neighbors who also loved it. We didn't garnish it with anything except some fresh ground black pepper and it was awesome. Only pea soup I will ever make again!

Call me uninformed or call me crazy, but this is the first time I have seen bacon bits in pea soup. I must be living under a rock. This seems like the best thing since sliced bread. I enjoy visiting this site because I can always (!) find something good, cheap and easy to make for dinner.

I like this pea soup since it is very comforting, and easy to throw together in the slow cooker with very little fuss. I had cooked a large spiral sliced ham for my guests over the holidays, and had a lot of leftovers, so I cubed up some of the leftover meat and used it in this soup recipe the week after. I used the center bone from the ham in place of the ham hocks that the recipe calls for, and it turned out delicious.
