Yields10 servings
Preparation Time15 min
Slow Cooker Time HIGH2 hr 30 min
Cooking Vessel Size4-quart slow cooker
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons softened butter
- 1/2 cup sour cream (low fat or regular)
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk (low fat or regular)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie spice
- 1 (20-ounce) can apple pie filling
- 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
-
Spray the insert of a 4-quart slow cooker liberally with cooking spray. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit the cooker and lay it in the bottom.
-
Using an electric mixer, briefly beat cake mix with the eggs then the butter and the sour cream until smooth. Add the milk gradually and continue to beat for 2-3 minutes on medium high. Stir in spices.
-
Cut or crush apple pie filling to make smaller pieces, stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon. Spoon half the mixture in an even layer on the bottom of the slow cooker and top with half the cake batter. Spoon the remaining apple layer on top and finish with the remaining batter, smoothing it evenly on top.
-
Cover and cook on high for 2 1/2 hours. Remove the insert (if possible) and remove the lid so cake cools for 15 minutes, then invert onto serving platter. Remove the parchment paper and serve the coffee cake while still slightly warm.

It is great that the entire recipe is listed above for ease of use. I always appreciate that. I can keep this page open and just follow the super simple recipe step by step! I love these kind of slow cooker desserts. I love spooning it out all warm and fragrant, and adding that scoop of French vanilla ice cream!

This recipe sounds so good. And I love apple pie. The recipe sounds really easy the addition of the sour cream and the milk will really make it moist. You can prepare and cook it while you are preparing other parts of the meal and it will be ready for dessert. I have to make it. Thanks!

I love apple pie and coffee cake, so this recipe is already one I need to try. And making it in the slow cooker? Yes, please!

I love that so many people have commented about how good this dessert is because I want to try it so bad. I think it sounds really easy to make too, so I could even throw it together on a busy night and have it ready for dessert when everyone is finished, and I can get an early start to relaxing.

Oh my goodness...this is the ultimate indulgent dessert for apple pie and cake lovers and I am definitely a fan of both. I can only imagine how many different occasions this recipe can be used for. No doubt everyone's sweet tooth will be pleasantly surprised...and if you add some walnuts (or your favorite nut) and caramel, you're sure to be in Apple pie coffee cake heaven!

I don't always love fruit flavored desserts but, I was pleasantly surprised by this coffee cake recipe---just the right amount of apple and cinnamon!

Tasty and light, with just enough apple pieces to make it sweet. I would have eaten more had there been any left... )

The cinnamon and apple topping were my favorite part of this cake, and I wish there had been more of that throughout. Overall, though, I really enjoyed this!

This tastes great, especially for coming from a slow cooker! I actually don't like apple pie, but this was a great apple pie/coffee cake compromise.

This was tasty, however, the cake texture and flavor didn't WOW me. It was a little crumbly and insubstantial. The apple pie topping was a home run, though.

Delicious! The cake is spongy, the apples taste amazing, and there's just the right amount of cinnamon.

I can't believe this came from a slow cooker! It's an easy option for people like me who don't like to make homemade cake, but love the taste. I agree with others that this could use more apple filling throughout the cake, but even so, I thought the cake had good flavor. The texture is definitely more cakey than a typical coffee cake, and it's a bit crumbly. But overall, this was a good bite!

I really thought that coffee cake and apple together would be too much sweetness in one, but I liked it quite a bit! The cinnamon really brings it all together.

The cake part was a little bit dry, but the apples were delicious. Add some whipped cream and it's a winner!

Hard for me to believe this came from a slow cooker! Overall, I liked it. I would have liked a bit more apple and cinnamon in it, though.

I never would have thought that this cake came out of a slow cooker. I loved the apple pie filling on top (although I would've loved to have had more of it) and thought the cake itself was pretty good. Perhaps I'll add a bit more spice to the cake next time but, otherwise, I liked this!

I'm not a huge fan of canned pie filling, so next time I will try this recipe with a homemade apple pie filling. The cake itself was really good!
