We make something very similar to this and call it cowboy food. Do you ever serve it with macaroni and cheese? My husband used to eat this as a kid and they would mix the beans and the macaroni and cheese together. Today, we make the dish, but we serve the macaroni separate and let everyone mix it together if they want to eat it that way. Some of us keep the food separate still.
